There are numerous plans, costs and anxieties that go hand in hand with arranging a wedding ceremony. If couples aren't careful they can get so involved with planning the wedding day and endeavoring to get all the details right that there is little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was preparing for her wedding ceremony she had three bridal showers to be at, reception plans to make and was trying to find a venue for the rehearsal dinner. The third wedding shower was given at my home. You see I'm her godmother so I had wanted to do something really special for her. Shortly before the shower we talked on the telephone. She sounded very anxious. She and her fiance were also having challenges finding the best wedding songs for the wedding ceremony. I suggested that she come the night before the wedding shower and stay the night and we would relax and I would help her organize a list of what still had to be done prior to the wedding day. She thought this sounded like a wonderful plan.
I did most of of the planning for the shower prior to my niece getting there so that we could focus on her needs. She shared that the rehearsal dinner was her main stress because of the fact that the spot they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to locate a different location. We started by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding day so we could get one requirement out of the way thereby giving confidence that the other would be dealt with as well. As I predicted finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the web, listening to samples, ordering what was selected and that was that. Now to settle the rehearsal dinner.
The wedding day rehearsal dinner is historically arranged by the groom's family; in fact a number of individuals refer to the occasion as the groom's banquet. My niece's fiance is from another state so his family is is paying for the rehearsal dinner, but they are not able to help with making the plans. My niece had reached out to the restaurant where the wedding reception will be held, but the only space available was the section where the wedding reception would be taking place. My niece stated that the plan was to decorate the reception area previous to going to the church for the rehearsal.
We called two neighboring restaurants to see if they could host the rehearsal dinner. Both had other happenings scheduled. Her fiance's parents are divorced, also both have married again. This meant that there were more people that would be at the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her tension for the reason that she was trying to suss out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart figured out for the wedding, but not knowing where the rehearsal dinner would be happening restricted her opportunity to prepare a chart.
I asked my niece if she had contacted the church to see if the fellowship area would be open. Everybody could just mix and have a light catered meal. This would be much less formal and would be easy to plan. The fellowship area was not being used that date. We called two delis and ordered a buffet meal. My niece called her fiance and told him the revised plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded fantastic. He would make preparations to have a pal of his tend bar and would arrange for the drinks.
The rehearsal dinner was a nice relaxed evening. The guests were able to mingle and socialize and the bride and groom didn't feel the need to sit in one spot while everybody ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the environment was very casual and the out of town guests did not have to try to find another site in an area that they were not familiar with.
